Healing Arts
The path of yoga is more than practicing asana. It is also an ancient healing tradition at the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. At SchoolYoga Institute, we believe the incorporation of healing arts into our practice and teaching deeps our experience of yoga.
We incorporate the following healing arts practices into our yoga and curriculum:

  Shamanica Energetic Healing
Shamanism is a traditional healing art practiced by most ancient cultures that calls upon the energy of the natural world to heal disharmony within and between the universe and its inhabitants. Shamans use natural materials such as feathers, stones, fire, water, earth, and plants, as tools and instruments to facilitate healing through energetic and spiritual adjustments.

  Reiki
Reiki is an energetic healing tradition from Japan that brings Universal Energy (Rei) into union with Individual Energy (Ki). In a typical session, a Reiki healer or therapist channels Universal Energy through his or her hands into the body of a recipient. Reiki can be applied effectively from a distance or by close or direct contact.

Herbology
Herbology is the use of plants and herbs as medicine. Herbology is a traditional healing art practiced by most cultures with some of the best-known examples being Chinese Herbology and Ayurvedic Medicine. Herbology is practiced both by licensed physicians of these traditions and also by individuals as a part of their own self-care and disease-prevention regimen.

Yoga as Medicine
Yoga as a lifestyle offers the faithful practitioner a wealth of tools for physical and spiritual healing. By following the eight limb path, practitioners clear their lives of negativity, imbalance, and indulgence (yamas), cultivate contentment, discipline, and self-reflection (niyamas), incorporate health-promoting practices into their lives (asana, pranayama), sharpen and quiet the mind, and eventually reach a state of peace and joy (samadhi).

Chiqong
Chiqong is an energetic healing tradition from China that strengthens the circulation of Vital Energy (Chi or Qi) in the body of the practitioner through slow, meditative movements and breathing techniques. Unlike Reiki, which is administered from a healer to a recipient, Chiqong is a self-practice consisting of a series of energy-circulating postures with corresponding breath.

Future Vision
SchoolYoga Institute is continually forwarding its intention to incorporate spiritual healing arts into yoga. Our vision is to evolve this work into a Healing Arts University in the near future. Please visit the website: www.healingartsuniversity.org for more information.
